Delete your account
You can delete your Knock account and everything stored with it at any time. You do not need to reinstall the app to do it.
In the app
The fastest route, and it takes effect immediately:
Settings → Delete account
By email
If you no longer have the app installed, or you would rather we did it, email us from the address on the account and we will remove it immediately when done in the app, or within 30 days by email.
If your account was created anonymously and has no email address attached, use the in-app route above — we have no way to verify ownership of an anonymous account by email, and deleting the wrong one is not recoverable.
What gets deleted
Your handle and password, with the handle permanently retired so it can never be registered again. Your email address, display name and profile photo. Messages you sent are redacted on our server so they are no longer served to anyone, and your device and encryption keys are destroyed.
What is kept
Nothing on our side beyond short-term connection logs, which age out on their normal schedule. Note that end-to-end encrypted messages other people have already received remain on their devices — as with any messenger, we cannot reach into someone else's phone to erase them.
This cannot be undone
Deletion is permanent. There is no recovery window and no backup we can restore from, which is the point — if we could bring it back for you, we could bring it back for someone else.
